FO(s): Optimum Hats

I bought a skein of South West Trading Company "Optimum" from my local yarn store's Sale Basket to knit a hat for my Dad for his Birthday. Hats are the only Knitted things that he will wear. So, I knit one and had (barely) enough for another. So, the other one is getting donated to Christmas Knits to Help "One at a Time Ministries".

Yarn: Stated Above. This yarn is Amazing, it's sooo soft! It kind of looks like Cotton, but Feels like Cashmere, even though it's Wool. 1 Skein in "Silver"
Needles: US Size 10 Straight
Pattern: "One Flat Hat"

This pattern worked out well, It knits up in about 1.5-2 hours. And, it fits well (on my head, at least). I hope my dad Likes it. I have about 2 feet of yarn left from my skein, so I guess that worked out pretty well!

Ok, so I cheated, but It was for a good cause!!

Ok, I cheated on my Socktoberfest vow to only knit socks during October, but A good friend's Birthday is today and I decided to make her something. So, how about a hat?
It doesn't look all that good on me, but It's not for me, so I guess that's okay! Here's a close-up of the flower:

Look at the colors! Here's the info:

YARN: Lionbrand Wool Ease Thick and Quick in Fisherman and Mountain Colors New 3 Ply Wool in Juniper (For trim and flower)
NEEDLES: US Size 11 Circular (Knitted Flat), and US Size I Crochet Hook
PATTERN: Flower Cap from Midnight Knitter

I only did 2 things different from the Pattern. 1; I did 2 rounds of Single Crochet around the bottom instead of one. And 2; I made up my own flower, because the one from the pattern looked too big.

This pattern is awesome. I knit the white part in one episode of "Survivor" and one episode of "Grey's Anatomy". I would have finished the whole thing during that Time period, but I had to go find a crochet hook.

I'm going camping (Again) this weekend, this time to the beach for a Search and Rescue thing (Dad's a lieutenant in Search and Rescue). Should be fun, although it has been raining off and on for a while. Keep your fingers crossed! See ya.

Cute New Socks and Cute New Shoes

I started a new pair of socks, I went and bought myself a skein of Wildfoote Sock Yarn, which I've never used before, but I'm liking it. I also bought Size 1 DPNs, which I've never used before, and I am afraid of breaking them. I usually only knit socks on size 2's, but I thought since everyone knits socks on size 1's, I might as well try it. I think once I get to the foot and start plain Knitting, it will make a nice fabric. We'll see. Here's the progress:
I love the colorway, very Autumn-y. It's kinda ugly, but I still like it.

And now on to the cute shoes. We went shopping today, I got pants and a new sweater and these CUTE shoes:

Ah! I love them. They are super comfy, too. I've never had a pair of Rocket Dogs, but I love them.

Socktoberfest Questionnaire and stuff

-When did you start making socks?
August, 2005, I think.
-Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class? I pretty much taught myself, although Grandma helped.
-What was your first pair?
My first actual PAIR of socks was THIS pair.
-How have they "held up" over time?
Not Well. Not well at all. They felted horribly.
-What would you have done differently?
Not knit them out of Alpaca yarn. What was I thinking?
-What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?
Um, I love Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport for socks, and Sockotta makes nice washable socks. I really wanna try Koigu one day.
-Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?
I usually use 4 DPNs, but I knit a pair once on 2 circulars. I prefer DPNs.
-Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? or short-row?)
It depends on the pattern and needles. Usually a heel flap.
-How many pairs have you made?

And, the sad part of the Post today, I frogged the Vesper Socks. I just can't knit them. We won't go into details, but it's gone. Someone take the Vesper Stripeyness away from me, I don't deserve it anymore.

We're going Camping in the Desert this weekend, Motorcycle riding, smores, campfires, that sort of thing. My Dad and Brother are riding their motorcycles, and My sister and her boyfriend are riding the mini-bikes. My sister even has her own Pink one. Here's a picture, just cuz they're so cute:

I always kinda thought that Second Sock Syndrome was when someone didn't want to finish the second sock, or just never end up making it. But, I have learned that it also means taking forever and a day to finish the second one. It's been 3 days since I finished the first of my Vesper Stripe socks, and I've only knit, like, 5 Rounds of ribbing on the second. And I don't want to finish this one, at least not right now. I just can't do it. I'm bored.

Like the title says, this could be why I don't knit full-length socks. I'd never finish a pair if I knit normal length cuffs. This is why I knit Footies.

Go read my mom's latest Blog, It's pretty important. Count on me for a scarf or a hat or two.

And I changed the layout again. I swear this is the last time... until Winter!

Like the new layout? Festive, huh? I decided that since I like playing around with my template so much, I'll change it according to season.

So, remember that Jaywalker I ripped out? Well this is what I'm making with the yarn. I started these yesterday in Honor of the beginning of Socktober. I love these, I just hope that they don't felt at the bottom when I wear them because they are wool. We'll see. Night!

Socktoberfest starts tomorrow! Are you guys joined up?! Well, I am. And if you can't tell, I'm excited. And, I've set a goal for myself, I will not knit anything but Socks during Socktober. I am knitting these socks right now:
(I was too lazy to bring my socks downstairs to take a nicer picture, so I used my baby blanket as a background... Yes, I still sleep with it!) These are for a deserving someone, I can't say who becuase they read my blog. I also have one Ankle sock knit as a "thank you" for someone else, I just have to get another ball of yarn to finish them.

So, I plan on finishing those 2 pairs of socks, then knit some for me during Socktoberfest.

EDITED TO ADD: I made a decision. I'm putting off the purple stripey socks pictured above to knit socks for ME. I'm selfish like that. I do have to finish that Thank You pair of footies, but I can finish those in maybe a day or 2 once I get the yarn. But Socktoberfest is for Me, I decided.

So, I'm knitting socks as a thank you for someone, and I finished one last night. These socks just don't want to be knit. Here are my reasons:

First: I'm knitting them toe-up, and when I cast-off, they where to tight to get on. Poo. So I had to rip out the cast-off and do a Sewn bind-off. Not so bad, but this little incident did set me back.

Second: I put the needles and the yarn in my backpack to start the second sock at school. Then, when I picked up my backpack to get off the bus, the pocket was open, and some stuff fell out. So I grabbed the stuff and stuffed it back into my backpack. But, in my hurry to get my class, I guess I didn't realize that I didn't grab my yarn, so I lost the yarn to make the second sock. Stupid Kaity! Now I have to wait until Monday to get another skein of yarn to finish the socks.

Argh.

Remember that wool I bought from handpaintedyarn.com? Well, actually, mom payed for it, so I spun it up for her. Check it out:
100% Merino Wool, 3.5 ounces.
Double Plied, Worsted Weight, approx. 145 yards.

I'm not crazy about this yarn, it's okay, kinda messy still. I guess non-messy yarn just comes with practice. I have inspiration for my next spinning project from this yarn that Mamascrapalota spun, I want to make some just like it! I have to go wool shopping.

Ok, let's see a raise of hands, who out there watches Survivor? Did you watch it last night?!

Oh my gosh, funniest... thing... ever...

Do you know what I'm talking about? That Billy Guy?

So, here's the senario for those of you who didn't see it (I feel sorry for you, it was awesome.) Ok, so the Aitu (Latino) tribe was getting tired of Billy because he was to lazy and blah blah blah, so they decide to throw the challenge so they could go to Tribal Coucil and vote him out. So, at the challenge, the Aitu tribe was standing next to the Raro (White) Tribe, and Billy looks over to the girls on the other team and says something Like "I'm going home", or something like that, and the two girls standing there go "Aww, but we love you!". Then, Billy looks at Candice (one of the girls) all serious and says "I love you."

Now, I thought maybe he was just flustered and didn't really know what to say, but I guess he meant it! At tribal Councilo, he starts talking about that he came to win, and he didn't get the million dollars, but He won a different Prize, True Love. He said that he and Candice had a moment at the challenge and he knew it was love at first sight.

Then Jeff (The Host) says "Candice?! From the other team?!" He was all mouth-agape. It was flippin HILARIOUS! I feel sorry for this guy, he thinks she loves him!

Well, Billy got voted off, and I want to see next week when Jeff asks Candice about her true love, Billy. She's gonna be like, "What are you talking about?"

I never laughed so hard.

Pretty spinning and a new free pattern

SO, the lovely lady at the yarn/fiber store next to my school loaned me one of her very own wheels, woo hoo!! I'll only need to borrow this one until Christmas (hint hint MOM). Ah! I'm so excited! Spinning on a wheel is so much fun. I learned at the store with some ugly brown wool, then brought the wheel home and practiced some more with the ugly wool. They, I figured I was doing good enough to start on the pretty fancy roving I bought while I was there. I chose these colors because there has been entirely too much blue/green action going on. Anyway, Wanna see what I can do?

Awww, it looks so cute. I just spun up a tiny bit of my fancy fluff, then tryed to ply it. This is what I got:
Looks like sherbert! I'm so excited! I've already filled up one bobbin with half of the roving in this color that I bought, then I'll spin the other half and ply them to make more of what you see above. Mom already has plans for the yarn she wants me to spin for her.

Oh yeah, I have a secret project I'm knitting right now. I'm about 10 rows from being done, then I'll show you.

I finished one of my Jaywalkers while babysitting today. I am not happy with the way it turned out. It's too big, there are tons of mistakes, and I totally goofed up the whole thing. I pretty much ignored the pattern because I thought I knew what I was doing, but I guess I didn't. So, this baby is getting frogged. I'm still in a sock mood, so I'm gonna make footies with this yarn, toe-up this time. I just took of a picture of the sock so you could see it. It's a crappy picture, but who cares. (Can you guess what I'm watching?)

I finished spinning up all the roving that Heather sent me, and I took a spiffy picture of it in the skein. Then I would it up and started knitting some of it. Then I went to post the picture, but I couldn't find it! I must have deleted it by mistake. Dang. It was a good picture, too. When I have time, i'll take a new picture. But for now, I'm off to go shopping for fluff for my Spinning Roving Swap. Adios.

Holy Moley, look at these socks. They are the most awesome ever! I love the colors! They are the ultimate Kaity Socks. I love them. She hand-dyed the yarn herself! How spiffy.

And, my lovely partner sent me a skein of her hand-dyed sock yarn. Aint it purty? I forgot to get a picture of it while it was still in a skein, but hey, who cares? She also sent a fancy little stitch marker:

Wanna see my newest Irish Hiking Scarf? I love this pattern!! But, you already know that.

This one is going to be softer than the green one, but I like the color of the green better. This scarf is good school and bus knitting.

And, here's my Questionnaire for the Spinning Roving Swap I signed up for.

1) How long have you been spinning?
Um... Since June. Not very long.
2) Are you a beginner, novice, or experienced spinner?
Very beginner. I can spin on a drop spindle and... thats about it. I'm not very good.
3) Do you spin on a drop spindle or wheel, or both?
Drop Spindle, but I'm trying to buy a wheel.
4) What types and weights of drop spindles (or what type of spinning wheel(s) ) do you currently own?
Um... I don't know. I have a spindle that my grandma gave me, and thats about all I use. I don't know weight, I've a beginner.
5) What type of fibers have you spun with before?
Wool, and I have a bag of uncarded (or whatever its called) Alpaca. Also, I have some Soy Silk stuff thats almost impossible for me to spin.
6) What fibers do you prefer to spin with?
Wool. Maybe Alpaca, I haven't tryed that before, but I like stuff thats easy to spin. Silk Hankie are so great.
7) What fibers do you dislike?
Um... I don't really know, I havent tryed a whole lot.
8) Do you prefer natural colored fibers, or handpainted/dyed fiber?
Handdyed. More fun that way.
9) Would you prefer all one type of roving or smaller amounts of different types to sample?
Probably all one type.

Hands

Thanks to all you great people who wrote nice comments about my scarf. I can't wait for it to be cold enough for me to wear it. Right now, its about 80 degrees at 7:30 at night. I gotta wait a while. I started another one today, becuase I'm a crazy person. I'm using Encore Worsted in "Dark Country Blue". Very pretty. The yarn is inexpensive, but soft and it has good stitch definition.

Moving on, I keep seeing people post about their hands for some contest, but I'm gonna post about mine Just Because. Here they are In Motion (Ignore the double-chin action I got going on.) I'm an English Knitter, I've tried to be a continental Knitter, but I just can't transfer over. It's faster this way, and that's how I've learned.

And here are my hands by themselves. I bite my finger nails, it's a bad habit, I know. I'm also left-handed. On my right hand, you can see the bracelets I made a couple weeks ago. I love making them, they look so Cool. On my left hand, you can see that I'm wearing a Purity Ring. My younger sister has one, too. It signifies that I am saving myself for marriage. Our mom bought them for us. It's really important to me. The Silver band says "True Love Waits" across it.

FO: Irish Hiking Scarf

Needles: US Size 9 Straights
Pattern: Irish Hiking Scarf Color #7814, I think. 2 Skeins.

I'm a fringe kinda girl, so I opted to fringe this baby. I think it turned out so wonderful, I'm so proud of it. I love this scarf. It's a little overkill for the weather where I live, but I don't care. Usually, when I knit something, I'm done with the pattern and I don't make another, but I want to cast-on for another scarf! My next will be 2 cables wide, as apposed to 3.

I learned a new skill while knitting this, too. Cabling without a cable needle is definatly the way to go. SO much faster. Here's a tutorial. One warning, though. Sometimes you could get a funky-looking Cable, but if you push your stitches down onto the full diameter of the needle, then your fine.

Stuck in My Head: Pool Party by The Aquabats

So, I brought my scarf to school today for knitting. I can't begin to tell you how much I love this scarf. There's just something to satisfying to knit it, it's thick and substantial and warm and squishy and pretty. I love it. I love it. I love it. I snapped a picture with my Camera Phone of it in my lap on the bus with my iPod. If you can't tell, It says "7 Minutes in Heaven (Atavan Halen)"- Fall Out Boy.

I was knitting it during my break today and this kinda cute dude told me that It was really pretty, and that he had knit a scarf once, but It wasn't as nice as mine was. Then this other girl told me it was really cute. Cool.

I told mom about a conversation I had with a curious person, Mom said it was blog-worthy, so:

Curious Lady: "Is that hard?"

Me: "Not really. Not once you get used to it."

Curious Lady: "Oh. I've done that, but with, like, 1 stick."

Me: *Pause, thinking: Oh. I think she means crochet.* "Yeah"

Curious Lady: "It's a good stress-reliever."

Then she walked away... Reminded me of one time when I was knitting around my friends and one asked what I was doing, and I said Knitting, and she asked me "Isn't that a Grandma Sport?" Bahahahaha, I laughed so hard. I've blogged about that before, but it still makes me laugh.

I got 8" done today. This will be my proudest FO ever when it's done.

I got a lot of work done today on my Sock Swap socks. I have an hour break in between classes on Tuesdaays and Thursdays, so I sit and knit at the Snack-Shack thingie on campus. There are some benches and picnic tables, and they play music (crazy metal-band music, not my kinda thing, but whatever). So, I sit there and knit and people-watch for an hour. I got about 2 inches done on the foot of the sock. I hope to finish them tonight, if I knit-knit-knit, it might happen. I have no Idea why they are taking so long.

I haven't had a picture to post about, because I can't show my socks, and thats my main project right now. I'll keep my eyes open tomorrow for a good picture to post about.

And that was it. And I started a sweater today. I know, I know, I have a bad history with sweaters. Don't say it, I know. But I started a Tonto Basic, but without the ugly matching scarf and not made out of that ugly yarn.

Hey Guys, thanks for all the nice comments wishing me luck at College. It wasn't stressful or scary, I think I did just fine. The annoying thing is, that I think I spend more time get to and from school than actually being in class. That's what happens when you take the bus, I guess. The Highlights of my first day?

-The bus taking me to school was late, in turn making me late for my first class. I had to stand in the doorway the whole class because there was no seats. Argh.

-The crazy lady sitting in front of me on the bus was yelling at her reflection in the window. I didn't take out my knitting, I was afraid she would think I was gonna stab her or something. Scary. Kinda funny, too, but I didn't think it was wise to laugh at her either.

Mom is picking me up after classes tomorrow so we can buy my books, plus I'm going to the fabric store to pick up something that I guarantee will make you guys laugh. You'll see.

I made this cute little bear for the Mother Bear Project. I'm going to knit more, they're easy. I encourage you guys to make bears, too, if you have the time.

Also, I found my next Big Knit. I really want a Deep V Argyle Vest. Challenging. But, I think I can handle it. I want to use Telemark by Knit Picks. It's cheap, and it looks pretty nice. It says:

"Available in bright, bold colors as well as the natural neutrals,
you will find no limits in the traditional and contemporary

Perfect! Argh, I start College tomorrow. Just Community College, but still, College is College. I'm not nervous so much right now, but I think tomorrow I will be. Wish me luck.

So, I started spinning that Roving the Heather hand-dyed just for me, and I think it's turning out pretty well. I'm thinking about leaving it Single Ply Sport-weight to make mittens or gloves. I haven't been spinning a WHOLE lot, becuase I'm kinda holding out for a spinning Wheel. I really want one, but I can't find one. I placed a bid on ebay for one, but I lost. Then I figured out that I could rent one from the local Spinning and Weaving guild, but apparently they are only for "experienced" spinners. So, my quest for a cheap, used spinning wheel continues.

You can read my mom's blog about the rudeness at the concert. I didn't care that I couldn't see because jerks where standing on their chairs right in front of us (regardless that they didn't even know any of the songs). I was upset that my little sister couldn't see, she was supposed to be seeing her favorite band! Well, we shifted around and we finally got to see what was going on. The band played well, and the lead singer is the hottest guy ever. Plus we had binoculars, so we could see well. I just hate rude people. I yelled at those stupid girls who knows how many times. Argh, I wanted to push them off their freakin' chairs! But we still had fun.
I got knitting done while waiting in line. I could hear some girls a couple feet away.
"You know, I judge people all the time. Like, 'She's a nerd' or 'She's ugly', but I say positive things, too. Like 'I like her shoes' and look at her, she's knitting a pretty scarf." Well, the shallow girl likes my scarf, yay for me...

My scarf enjoyed the opening band, too. I'm officially half way through, I started my second ball this morning.

Oh yeah, remember how I said the scarf was on hold? My gracious sock swap partner told me to knit the scarf. I still feel selfish, but I love this scarf.

I love this scarf. I love the color, I love the yarn, I love the pattern. I just love to watch the cables form and seeing it get longer and longer. And It's going faster than I ever expected. Hmmm... I love it.

But, I have to stop knitting it for now. I feel like I'm cheating my Sock Swap partner. She's working on my socks and I havent knitted a stitch on the sock since I started this scarf. So, I'm going to finish the socks and then I can knit knit knit on my scarf. But that's okay, I love working on the socks too. But I shall miss you, scarf.

That, my friends, is the humble beginnings of an Irish Hiking scarf. I've been wanting to make one for a long time, I just haven't had any good yarn to make it out of. So at the yarn store today, I picked up two skeins of Cascade 220 (My Most Favorite Yarn Ever!) in some BRIGHT green color that I can only describe as Peter Pan colored. The picture is a little dark, but I'll try to get a more accurate colored picture next time. So far So good. I'm using size 9 needles rather than the 8's that the pattern calls for, so I think it will go a tad faster. And I learned to Cable without a Cable needle, which is the best thing in the world. Way Easy. So, for now, I'm not working on anything but this scarf and my sock pal socks, which are coming along slowly, but they look cool!

On Tuesday, the All American Rejects are playing a free concert at our County Fair, so I'm gonna check them out. I've already seen them, but it's free. I saw the B-52's at the fair a couple years ago, and a couple years before that, I saw Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is playing again this year at the fair, but I can't get anyone to go with me, so Alas! No BBVD :(

Oh well, I can handle it. I'm a happy person, it's not getting me down!

My cousin Claire and I where surfing Craftster.org and she saw a Reconstructed t-shirt that she said she Needed. So, I told her if she brought me a shirt to reconstruct, another shirt that fit well for reference, and one more shirt I could cut up for the contrasting color, I would sew it for her. Here's the finished project:
My little sister is modeling it for me. Thanks, Amy! I think it turned out Great! I love it.

And, my mommy wanted one of my knitting totes. So she picked out the fabric and I made one for her:

The Importance of Learning to Knit

A friend called me this morning and told me "I'm sorry it's so last minute, but I'm having a party tonight for my birthday." So I told her I had to go to Youth group, but I would come by afterward.......... Then I suddenly thought "Oh crap! I need a present!"

So I knit her a new pair of wristwarmers. I crocheted some for her for Christmas and she loved them, so I knit these up in about 3 hours.

Yarn: Noro Kureyon, 1 skein.
Needles: US Size 8 DPNs
Pattern: Cast on 36 sts, knit in the round: 2x2 ribbing until thumb, cast off 6, then cast on those 6 again on the next round. Rib for about an Inch and a half. Easy.

Thats why learning how to Knit is a good thing. You can make cool stuff and impress all your friends at parties, haha.

Yay! Finally the perfect knitting tote.

So I hit Joann's today to shop for fabric and found some heavier-weight fabric and I thought, Hey, a chance for me to make yet another bag. So I tryed out some fusable Interfacing, and it turned out Perfect! It's nice and firm and perfect for holding a knitting project. I need a pocket in the inside for notions, but other than that, it's great! Yay!!!

I had a babysitting Job ALL WEEKEND. From Friday Morning until about half an hour ago. I just got home... I think I'll wait awhile until I have kids. That was a lot of work, and I don't think I was paid enough, but oh well. I will say one thing. All that babysitting is great for knitting. I knit this pair of socks while babysitting.

Yarn: Plymouth Sockotta (I think. I kinda lost the label. There was just one ball at my LYS, so I bought it. That's why they are footies.)
Needles: US Size 2 Double Pointed
Pattern: No pattern, but a reference to Ann Budd's "The Knitter's Handy book of Patterns" for the Heel turn.

So, that's a good thing. This is the first pair i've made that I didn't try to match up. As it turned out, they are kinda opposites of each other, but I like them that way.

Or does this wristlet-fingerless glovev thing look a little weird to you? Kinda short, and I'm not too fond of the picot bind-off. When I saw them in Knitty.com I kinda felt the same, but I figured I would knit it anyway and see for myself. So I just finished one about 5 minutes ago. Nope, still weird. I'm frogging this one. I guess they would keep your wrists warm, but they don't go up very far on the fingers, so they feel kinda weird on, too. Anyway, I'm off to frog it.

LOOK 4 LUV

A while ago, when my Cousin and I were flippin' obsessed with Green Day and Everything Green Day (I still love them, but I'm not obsessed anymore. It's a more healthy relationship, haha) we were perusing the Green Day website and came across this recording of Billie Joe Armstrong doing an interview about his very first record. He was 5 years old. The Song was called "Look For Love". And he was adorable. Anyway, my cousin and I love that saying, "Look For Love". It always makes me smile when I say it, too. So, as a tribute, I give you the "Look 4Luv" Knucks:

This was a really Fast knit. I finished them in 2 days! Plus, I LOVE Cascade, so I love these even more. This was my first time making Gloves, rather than just mittens. It was pretty easy, and I would really recommend this Pattern, too.

So My mom and I went shopping yesterday and hit the LYS and a quilt store so I could get more fabric. This is all I got.

I had the Idea to make a bag that could hold a Sock-in-Progress, So this is what I came up with:
It's about 7" by 10" (Approx). And it has a Zipper. Here's an Inside view (Sorry for the Blurry Pic)
Coolness. I also got these two lovelies. Two skeins of Cascade 220. Now, what to do with them?

I LOVE THE LINING FABRIC! It's little goldfish in Bags and they all have Names (Swimmy, Spashy, Spooky, Helen). Soo cute! Anyway, Today my brother is taking me and my sister to Six Flags Magic Mountain. Not that big of deal, seeing as it's about half an hour away, But it should be fun. Amy and I are gonna go on Revolution about 20 times while Scott rides all the Scary Big rides.

I finished that Laptop-messenger bag I made:

I added the buttons to it to keep it closed and embroidered the little flowers and the sun and grass onto it. Plus the decorative buttons.

I feel bad that my blog name Says "All She Wants to do is Knit", but I havent really been knitting lately. Oh well. Sewing is more fun for now. I got an easier to use machine from my Grandma, so I made this messenger bag case thing for my Laptop:

Listening to: Sweetness by Jimmy Eat World (I LOVE THIS SONG!)

Needles: US Size 8 16" Circular and DPNs
Pattern: Madge from Knitty Spin

The pattern says that it's a great hat to make if you don't have a lot of yardage. The way the pattern is writen, that's very true, because if you knit it exactly As-Is, the hat turns out SHORT. I finished the hat and it was way to short. I had to pick up stitches along the Cast-on edge and add ribbing to make it long enough to wear. I love how it turned out, although It is a little hard to see the lace pattern. If your going to make it, start out adding about an inch and a half of ribbing before you start the pattern.

I always feel proud when people are impressed that I made something I'm wearing. Now I can't wait to wear this hat and say "Yeah, I knit it. I spun the yarn, too."

Very Cool...

PS: I saw "Pirates of the Carribean: The Dead Men's Chest" Last night. Soo good! A little unrealistic at some parts, but freakin' Hilarious! Seriously, Johnny Depp is amazing, not to mention BEAUTIFUL! Yowza.

I finally got around to posting! Well, our little mini-vacation was really fun. I brought my Ponchette to knit while I was gone, but I didn't knit one stitch. Bad kaity. I just wasn't in the mood I guess. I did make 5 more headbands while I was there for me, my sister, and cousins. And when I got home, there was a package waiting for me, with all the Fluff I ordered from www.handpaintedyarn.com. I ordered two of the Butterflies colorway, and one Polar Morn. I spun up all of one of the Butterflies:

I think it came out really cool. I'm proud of it. I'm using it to make the Madge hat from Knitty Spin. I'm almost done with it, I just have to finish my decreases.

Check out what Heather sent me!!!! She's the bestest! I love the roving she dyed for me, it's so funky! I also got some Merino/Angora pink stuff (SOO SOFT!) and a bag of Alpaca (SOFT, TOO!!). That up there is the only yarn-related thing going in el Casa de Kaity lately. I was about to go pick up my ponchette to work on, but realized my friend's b-day was today. So I quickly spun up a little of the roving I dyed last week, and I'm making an iPod holder for her. After I finish it, I swear I'll get back to work on the ponchette-thingie.

Oh yeah, in a couple of days, the mailman is gonna bring me some Fluffy Stuff that I ordered from Handpaintedyarn.com. I ordered two "Butterflies" and one "Polar Morn" (whatever that means...). Yay, I can't wait!

The Official Start of Summer Vacation

I went to the beach last Wednesday and got the worst sunburn of my life (oops)! Then yesterday I went swimming for the first time this summer. Me and my friends Elyse and Ben and my sister where hanging out at my house yesterday and we decided to go swimming at Elyse's pool. So we did, lol. They have a really fun backyard, with a fancy new pool and a tree house and a plethora of animals. I'm officially a member of the "Tree House Club". Initiation would be jumping into the pool from the tree house. Fun stuff, lol. Anyway, we had a good time.

Also yesterday, I went to the LYS and bought enough Cotton Patine to make a Mini Ponchette- thing. That up there is the start of it. The knitting is easy and goes pretty fast so far. The cotton is really soft, too!

PS: I changed up a couple things, like my background and header. I got bored, haha.

My first attempt at spinning really sucked:

Then I practiced more and more and now I'm getting better. I can pretty much make it basically the same width and uniform looking if I try, which was my biggest problem. Here's what I just finished this morning:

I bought 8 oz of White Corridale Wool from my new local yarn shop and Kool-aid dyed half of it Grape and the other half Black Cherry. I've only spun up about 4 oz. Of it so far. There's about 52 yards. I plied it, too. The colors kinda remind me of the Circus.

Next up I think I'm going to work even harder to make it all the same width and spin up some single ply stuff. But first I need more fiber!!

So, another post from my new computer, I love it! My brother bought us a wireless router-thingie to get us wireless internet anywhere in the house. Sweet! I could post on my blog from... outside!

Wendy sent me some gorgous 100% Cashmere Sock yarn from Poshyarns.com. Isn't it pretty? My friend Jennifer sent me 4 rolls of colored duct tape! Yay! And Linda sent me a gift certificate for Barnes and Noble (get me some knitting books!). Thank You Guys, and to everyone else who sent me a Congratulations. I love you all!! You can see pictures of the ceremony on my Mom's blog. Right above the pic of my new yarn is one of my beautiful new Cedar Chest from my parents and the quilt my Grandma made me. I love it.

If you haven't read my mom's post yet, then I'll tell you myself. I learned to spin today! My mom was NOT going to let me learn, I don't need a new hobby, LOL! I actually wasn't going to let myself. But, the lady at our new LYS sold me on it (Oh yeah, Wendy, I'll tell you all about the store so you can check it out!). She was so nice and inviting and let me spin on her spindle, so I caved! Yay! My first spinning experience looks like Crap, but I'll get better! I really need a real spindle, not just one made out of CDs. I am trying to figure out how a spinning wheel works, so I can talk my dad into making me one, haha.

Disneyland was really fun yesterday. We didn't have a whole lot of time, but it was still fun. Graduation practice today SUCKED, but oh well. I only have to wait until Thursday, right?

Friday was my official last day of school, FINALLY! YAY! I'M DONE WITH HIGH SCHOOL! I'M FREE!

Well, not yet, I still have Senior Week, where Monday all the seniors go to Disneyland (yay!!), then a barbeque/softball game another day, the Senior Breakfast and slideshow the next day, and Thursday is Graduation! Then i'm officially in Summer Vacation until I head to community college in Fall. Wow.

It already feels like summer around here, it was about 100 degrees this afternoon, and It will only get hotter. I love it. Me and my brother just ran throught the sprinklers, LOL. So what's a girl to do when it's blazin' hot outside? Why, stay inside and make an AWESOME new purse out of DUCT TAPE!

I'm preparing for the most stressful week of my LIFE. I only have 3 more school days, which means I have to get all my finals taken and fees paid off and completely cleared for graduation. I have so much on my mind. Oy. I want summer vacation, and I want it NOW!

Good news: I'm almost done with my girlie Socks. I think I'm going to give them to a special cousin of mine, Shh! I'm making a pair for my other younger cousin, too. That's the wonder of toe-up, I don't seem to have Second Sock Syndrome when I do them toe-up, and it seems to go faster! Woo hoo!

Oh Yeah, I chopped all my hair off for summer vacation:

Man-flops and Girly Socks

Last summer, I had a pair of flip-flops that I bought from the guy's section at Old Navy, and they lasted me longer and were more comfy than any of the girl flip-flops i've ever had. And I LOVE the flops, I never wear tennis-shoes in the summer time, just flops. Anyway, they were the best flip-flops ever. And then one tragic day, my man-flops died... I was so sad :-(

So I went shopping this weekend, and got me new man-flops to break-in this summer. Hopefully they last, because I love them!

Yeah, I like shopping in the guy's section :-)

Now for the Girly socks:

Mistress Stash Enhancer contacted me, wanting to send a present to my mommy secretly, and when the package came, I got a present, too!! I love this sock yarn, it's soo cute! And I also got some awesome lip balm and cool stitch markers. Thank you!! I love it!

With about 500 yarns of Bright Green sport-weight wool? I bought it on impulse from Jennifer's Esty Shop, and I really like it... but what do I do with it?! It's not exactly soft, and I started a felted purse out of it, with doubled strands, but then I changed my mind and ripped that off the needles. Any ideas? Anyone?
It's been HOT lately, and my new favorite knitting spot is in the backyard on the hammock with my iPod.Now if only I had something good to knit...

These are seriously the CUTEST socks ever! I love them, thank you, partner!

And I figured out my next knitting endeavor; the Bad Penny top. I'm modifying it slightly, I'll make it a bit longer, And I don't think I'll do the eyelet-design at the bottom, but other that that... I'm going to use Caron Perfect Match because it's cheap, soft, and sturdy, And I can get it at my local Michaels. Plus, tons of colors to choose from! Sweet. I'll have to wait to get my yarn, seeing as I'm broke right now.

Holy Cow is this yarn soft! It's almost to nice to be a OSW, although I really love how it turned out. I think my guage is off, because it's a tad big, but it's comfy that way, seeing as my other OSW is a tad bit tight. Can't you just see the softness?!

Prom was way fun, I'm pooped. I went with my boyfriend and a bunch of friends in a big group, it was really fun. First, we went to get pictures taken, then we went out to dinner, but we still had time before the dance started, so we went bowling. The the dance, it was really fun, I had a really good time.

Oy, all kinds of craziness has been going yesterday and today, trying to figure out plans and where to go to dinner and getting hair and nails done before the big night. Tomorrow I will post pictures of all the good stuff, me and my date and my friends and everything. I'm just glad that we aren't getting into prom like all the cheerleaders and preppy girls at school, all they have talked about for the last 2 months was dresses and dinner and afterparties. Last week, the hot Prom topic was getting the Boobs taped , so they are all high and perky in your dress. I think not...

My blogs have been boring lately, because what I was knitting, I couldn't show you. My first socks swap partner got her socks a couple of days ago, and I just finished the second pair for my sock exchange. They turned out REALLY cute, I wish they where mine! They wouldn't fit my big feet, seeing as my sock swap partner, Abigail, has feet reasonably smaller than mine.

Anyway, I'm going to get back to work on my Branching Out scarf just as soon as I knit the second sock for my boyfriend. He keeps "reminding" me about it, haha. And just incase you where feeling picture-deprived, It is Self Portrait Tuesday!

I had been dyeing a Red streak in my hair for a long time, and with Prom coming up on Saturday, I decided that it was time to get back to normal, so I was going to dye it all back to my normal color, and hope for the best. Well, you can still see a difference between where it was red and just my normal color, but it's a lot less noticable. Ohh well.

I've been busy lately, trying to get all registered for College, and I think I have about 16 more school days until I graduate. Also getting Prom plans figures out and knitting socks all day has made me sleeeeepy. I think i'm gonna go to bed. Night, all!!

That's the Sock yarn that I bought yesterday. I was in a hurry and I knew I wanted a skein of Claudia's to make footies with, so I grabbed this color. They had a very limited selection. I'm not Crazy about it. Mom pointed out, howver, that they match my nasty old Chuck Taylor's perfectly:
Yeah, they are old, and I have pretty new ones, but I love these puppies. They are mega-comfy. You can't tell from the picture, but they are fallin apart soo bad. The whole sole of my right shoe is slowing ripping away from the rest of my shoe, haha. So, I'm not throwing them away until the rubber falls off all the way or my toes start popping out or something. And that big hole on the side? Hello! Thats so you can see my handknit socks! Duh!

I have no idea how much work this could entail, or even if it will even be successful or not, but after posting about wanting a Sock-swap partner, I got one, and then two others commented that they would swap, so I'm thinkin of pairing them up. So, thus is the start of my small, casual Sock Swap. Mom bought this sock yarn the other day and didn't tell me about it until the day it got here, she's so sneaky. Anyway, the skein had like, 650 yard on it, enough for 2 pair of socks, so she let me have half of it! Yay, the yarn is called called "Fly Super Sport", so these are gonna be my "Super Fly" socks, or ("Supah Fly", if you prefer!). The yarn should be called Fly Super Soft, because it is! Sooo soft. Yay! It's Friday!! Tomorrow I'm going shopping to pick out my Prom Dress! Woo-hoo! I'm way excited! Anyway, here's my big Discovery of the week. Yesterday, I discovered I can knit and read at the same time. I dont think I could knit, say, a sweater or something fancy while I read, but a sock works just fine. This is big news for me, because I have to read this Monster of a book by next friday for my English Class. But, If I knit while reading, I'm killing two birds with one stone (I really hate that saying). So here's what I'm knitting while reading:

Thuja socks for my boyfriend. He wanted green, and I wanted to make them at a larger guage, so I think this works out well. I'm lovin this pattern, too. I gotta say, for me, this Plymouth Encore is the New Wool-ease. It's softer, it's got beutiful stitch definition, it might cost a couple dollars more, but I love it.

Also, I whipped this up last night real quick:

I got this really cute new purse last weekend (Mine's bright green!), and I use it everywhere, School, shopping, wherever. But, It doesn't have a pocket for my iPod, And so it justs sits in there with all my pens and stray DPNs, and I'm always worried it will gat scratched, so there you go. Now it's protected.

My Productive Weekend

I had Friday off of school this week, and I got so much done this weekend, it's not even funny.

1. I knit a Dinosaur, (Yarn; Cascade 220, Needles; Size 5)

2. I cleaned my room (Biggest accomplishment of all, you can't imagine how messy it was. Seriously). Oh yeah. I had to switch beds with my little sister. We share a room and now i'm stuck up in the little crappy top Bunk. I miss my big bed.

3. Washed all my Laundry and put it away into my newly cleaned closet.

Quickie Post

I accually finished the back of the Gatsby Pullover a couple days ago, but I just got around to posting about it. I had to doctor the photo to get accurate color, but anyway, So far so good, I like the black, and the yarn is practically perfect for a sweater, washable and soft enough, I think it will drape well, too. Any way, I have yet to cast on for the front, I've been workin on a scarf made out of some Baby Alpaca Grande from my stash, using This Pattern, You can't really see from the picture what it looks like, but it kinda reminds me of this one Wendy just made. Anyway, it's super soft and I like it. I think the thing will shed more than both my cats put together, and when I'm working on it I keep getting fuzzies tickling my nose, but it's worth it, I think. Picture of that one soon.

Just Me

This all started when I read April's post about being comfortable in her own skin, and I really like what she wrote. I was thinking about how old you have to get until you are completely comfortable with yourself, regardless of what everyone else likes, or what they think of you. I mean, I just turned 18, and I am pretty much entirely happy with who I am. There are little things, I could be skinnier, but that's for my benefit, not because everybody in magazines and whatnot tell you that that's attractive, but that would be entirely for my own benefit, to make me happy, no one else. A couple years ago, I really kind of couldn't say the same, that I wasn't comfortable in my own skin, but that was then. I really like myself, I really like being me. That's kinda like, my whole perspective for... everything. Just, being me and loving life because of it. I wrote an article about this and submitted it to the spring Knitty, I kinda tied it in with the whole knitting aspect, so if they don't accept it, I'll post it here. But, anyway, here's a big Thank You to April for writing about this. That up there is me knitting in motion, usually my normal state while knitting, although those Jeans might be replaced with Pajama pants or something, but basically, that's me.

What am I knitting, you ask? I had the urge to knit a sweater really bad this morning, so we hit the LYS, like we do almost every weekend, and I spend my voucher on enough Encore Chunky to make this Gatsby Pullover from the Spring 2003 Interweave Knits:

The color I bought is black, I like black, I wear a lot of black, so this will just be a sweater I can be comfortable in. I really like this design. I have for a while, and have wanted to make it for a long while.

My LYS has this frequent-buyer program, and so whenever you spend, it think it's $275, you get a $25 dollar voucher. I didn't start my account there very long ago, maybe 5 or 6 months ago, and look what was waiting for me when I got home from school! When I think about it, $275 is a lot of money! Of course, I think that 80 something dollars I spent there last week helped. I was just wishing that I had more money to go buy some Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran for another Branching Out after I finish this one. I'm hooked on this patter, it's really fun and easy. My next time, it will be a solid color.
I'm up to about 22-23 inches. I plan to finish it by the end of this weekend. Maybe.

Heres a shot of Branching Out.

I'm not too far along, I havent really worked on it since Monday, But at least I haven't given up yet. I'm not too thrilled about the veregation, you can't see the pattern as great as you could with a solid yarn, but I still like it, and I'm still goin for it.

I had a good time at the concert. Fall Out Boy was awesome, lots of fun, floor tickets are just plain scary, I'm still sore from that whole Moshpit incident. The other bands there where The Hush Sound, From First to Last, Hawthorne Heights, and All American Rejects. Good Times.

And One last thing.

What's that I see on the bookshelf in the office? Why, my new swift, of course. A birthday present from a generous good buddy of mine. Thanks!

I found a use for that fabulous Lorna's Laces Shepherd's Worsted I bought, meet the very beginings of a "Branching Out" Scarf. My first official lace project. I've never really knit anything Lacey, and It's soo fun! You have to pay attention, but not too much as you can't watch TV while doing it, which is good. I love this yarn soo much, so soft. I couldn't wait to get home from school so I could work on it.

In other fantastic News, I am going to see Fall Out Boy tomorrow night!!! I'm so excited, these guys are soo cool and energetic. I love their music, so it should be a really great concert.
